Whilst trawling through the never ending music recommendations on my Bandcamp feed last year, I stumbled across an intriguing band named, Extinction Complete. The thumbnail depicted a zombie about to devour another zombie. Being a complete and utter zombie freak, I thought to myself this is worthy of my attention, and I simply needed to devour (pun intended) the music on offer.
Extinction Complete are a two man outfit, hailing from Germany and Finland respectively. All the music is composed by Volker, and the vocals and lyrics by Jokipii.
The result of these two gentlemen is a four track EP just over 16 minutes of music which is paying tribute to the golden era of the early Swedish Death Metal movement in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Yep, that’s right, I’m talking about that wonderful chainsaw, buzzsaw Boss HM2 pedal tone. Definitely the Swedish double act of Dismember and Enombed are present on this EP.
Which is exactly what the lads set out to achieve; paying their respects to the Death Metal grandfathers of the scene. All four tracks flow along nicely and bundles of crunching riffage melodic leads putting a massive grin on my face like the village idiot! I am, and always have been a sucker for this particular style of Death Metal. And as Motörhead proved, if it ain’t broken why fix it, right?
The vocals are barked and grunted out with venom, and although the drums are programmed, this takes nothing away from the music and it delivers in spades.
Since the release of this EP, it has come to my attention that they have been picked up by Absolute Maximum Records recently, which has me eagerly awaiting the next phase in the zombie apocalypse.
