A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Info

Out of the blue, Sepulcherous appeared with their Death Metal. No pre-announcement, no background info, no line-up; just four tracks uploaded online and that’s it.

With artwork bearing a resemblance to H.R. Giger and a logo that immediately establishes expectations for a specific style of Death Metal, Sepulcherous pays homage to the Finnish Death Metal scene of the early 90s. Those raw guitars, perhaps less “chainsaw” than the HM2 sound of their Swedish neighbours but just as heavy, combined with a dark, slightly Doomy atmosphere, gave the Finnish scene its own identity. It’s obvious that Sepulcherous draws inspiration from that era, making it feel familiar right away. Also, their ‘Hail Convulse’, greeting is a bit of a giveaway.

With a limited run of only 10 tapes,, I’m willing to bet you won’t grab the first version from Carrion Chalice, a label to check out if you’re into dark Death Metal, but fans of Convulse, Krypts, and the outbursts of the Abhorrence ‘Vulgar Necrolatry’, demo, should put Sepulcherous on their radar.
