After having seen numerous Putrefied gigs over the last two years, it was about time I got my hands on one of their releases. After the release of the EP ‘Bodybits’, ‘The Putrid Remains’ is the first full-length album of this Dutch band.
On stage, Putrefied is good for half an hour of unrelenting ‘sick, downtuned US-style’ music, and on disc, Putrefied does exactly the same. ‘The Putrid Remains’ offers you 8 songs, tons of brutality, and endless amounts of blastbeats, breaks, and tempo changes. Opening song ‘Skull Tortured’ is my favourite, and the other songs follow in descending order, as I’m of the opinion that the lack of variation and the slightly muffled production result in the fact that it’s not easy to stay focused for the full album.
This is indeed very sick, downtuned US-style Death Metal, but it also suffers from the boundaries inherent to the genre. Yet, this may seem as if I actually had a hard time listening, but the opposite is of course the case, for I had and have a good time listening to this stuff, but it just has some minor flaws, which you, as the die-hard Death Metal fan you are, probably won’t even notice.
