A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Malmö, Sweden, the home of Swedish Death Metal act Obscurity who once released their infamous demo ‘Damnations Pride’ back in 1987. Does Interemo have the same je ne sais quoi to gain the same notice as Obscurity did?

Well, of course it is hard to compare as Obscurity has the advantage of “being there at the beginning”, and Interemo has to fight against a lot of competition nowadays. But even with ignoring those facts, Interemo does not deliver an album that will be considered a genre highlight by its fans.

The sound is there, the growl fits, the groove, the howling and sometimes rockin’ solos…it is there. Still, why didn’t my massive thirst for Old School Swedish Death Metal get filled by ‘Buried in Rotten Remains’ entirely?

I think it has something to do with their midtempo/groove/’n roll vs. up-tempo ratio, of which the first is more prominent. And of which I think the latter is their best work on this album, which is a bit Dismember meets Tormented like. ‘Buried in Rotten Remains’ is not a bad album at all, absolutely not, but I wish it was a bit differently. But that is a matter of taste as well.

I definitely do hear potential and I will keep an eye on them to see how Interemo will develop.
