A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Info

Those following the Turkish Death Metal scene or even just Death Metal in general know the quality output from the country. Engulfed, Serpent Of Old, Woeden, Abolish just to name a few.

I mention Abolish because although they are from the Ankara region, Inhuman Depravity hail from Istanbul but both bands feature the same singer Lucy Ferra (get it?), and damn what a singer. Abolish is more ominous and plodding Death in their sound and Inhuman Depravity is faster and more aggressive with some Grind elements.

Their songwriting also has a bit of technicality to it. Not quite Tech Death but there are moments of stop/start rhythms and guitar arpeggios that give a nod to that genre. So for this, it makes for a much more interesting listening experience. So keep in mind this is a different beast altogether.

I mention Lucy because she has that Martin Van Drunen vibe with a bit of Dave Ingram sound in her voice and to me she is just intense and spot-on with her vocals. Musically they are just as intense. The drumming of Eren Gursoy is something to watch as well. Another item I appreciate is that you can hear the bass and get little moments within the songs to spotlight this. Cheers to the production team for making everything cut through the mix and not be reduced to one sonic blob. Also, I have to give a shout-out to the great cover art.

So for those who like a bit of intensity and more in-your-face Death Metal, I say take a look into them.
