Emerging out of the slimy mucus membrane of the darkest corners of the year 2024 was Bloodaxe Holocaust. This solo project, helmed by musician ‘J.D’ or otherwise known as ‘Nun Fucker’, is a macabre celebration of hyper-raw Black / Death Metal. Here we are presented with a self-titled debut demo release, containing four tracks with a hasty runtime that is just shy of twelve minutes.
The initial title track is so distorted and uncooked in its approach to soundplay, that it sounds as if the very devices used to record it are about to explode due to faulty electronics. Guitar feedback pierces the white noise, and a central riff lingers amongst the ultra chaotic rawness. Some unintelligible guttural roars subtly spill out from within the massive abrasiveness of the mix. On ‘Blood Ceremony’ the pace quickens and the instrumentation becomes slightly more dynamic, and I enjoy the rabid guitar work. This haste continues on ‘Dethrone the Father of Christ’ where the metallic percussion becomes warped underneath a sound palette that is so harsh it sounds as if the music is playing out from the blown speakers of decades old malfunctioning television.
The final track of the four is ‘Blasphemous War’, where the approach to abrasion takes a shift towards something with more of a focus on treble frequency attack. The song sounds sharp and shrill like an audible razor blade. Overall, this demo is a short and fun offering from this new UK-based artist. I recommend this brief torture-basement playlist to all fans of ultra-raw Blackened punishment.
