Abraded – Unadulterated Perversity

abraded – unadulterated perversity

Info

American Death Metal/Grindcore combo Abraded returns with a new full-length album, after their eponymous debut from 2021. A debut that to me was a very welcome and refreshing listen, though it did not offer anything remotely new or genre-bending, it seemed to fill a gap between both genres that is rarely heard these days.

And fortunately, the band kept their course steady and still operates in that twilight zone between both Grindcore and Death Metal, adding piece of both genres to their mix, resulting in yet another album that has nice choppy grooves, wild and frantic blasting sections and equally furious sounding vocal attacks. Some remarkably melodic leads do pop up here and there, for example in the almost Traditional Doom Metal styled ‘They Die’. Quite a song that makes you raise your eyebrows at first, but after a few listens the track just blends nicely in the mix of styles that Abraded is serving. Yet again, the band is not offering anything that hasn’t been done over a hundred of times before, in fact it does remind of those glorious years in the 90’s in which so many bands were doing similar sort of things. Abraded just seem to have lifted the coffin lid of those, almost, forgotten years of great 7” EP release of bands like Squash Bowels, Dead Infection, Hideous Mangleus, Haemorrhage, Necrony. General Surgery, Phlegm, Dead and Xysma. The only real difference is that Abraded update their sound quality a little to today’s standards, not all too much, but both albums have a more lethal punch to it, but at the very same time it leaves enough room for a very sharp and snappy snare drum to make it sound all so authentic.
