There must be an abyss somewhere in Rome. That is the only possible explanation as to how this demo reached us. And abyssic is not just the origin of this self-titled debut: both the sound and the songwriting come directly from the depths of raw Black Metal.
This is a stark punch in the face of modern, polished production. Dogma delivers 30 minutes of unrelenting blastbeats sprinkled with crushing, slower passages. The drums dominate the overall mix, matching their rawness perfectly with the cavernous vocals. The final track, clocking in at almost 10 minutes, incorporates Doom sections and perhaps even a touch of Sludge.
People who like unicorns, Dream Theater and alcohol-free beer should stay far away from Dogma. But those about to rock, equipped with a Darkthrone collection and a chainsaw in the trunk, should definitely check them out via Despise The Sun Records on Bandcamp. Currently only available as a digital download.
