A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

It must have been seven years ago I saw Aguynguerran on stage. Throughout the years the band gained more and more respect from the Belgian underground. A long rest of five years were in between the last demo “Chirstreign Annihilation” and Aguynguerran’s debut “Perverting the Nazarene Cult” released through Shiver Records this year. But West-Flanders’ most Satanic didn’t close their doors, in stead the re-opened the gates to hell. “Perverting the Nazarene Cult” chooses the religious path, it seems, and the first track “Perverting the Nazarene Cult” self kicks off very intensively (a good mix of Behemoth and Unanimated). Nevertheless this song isn’t really representative for the rest of the album.

The other songs bring Aguynguerran’s known style of traditional fast and thrashy black metal (including sharp vocals). The link with other Belgian bands is inevitable – There quite some Iconoclasm and Enthroned going on here. Personally I like the mid-tempo parts the most and some different turns (the ending of “Manifest” and the chants in “Oath”) are a pleasant break in this unholy crusade. I wouldn’t say “Perverting the Nazarene Cult” is an outstanding or highly innovating release. Fanatics of straight forward black metal wouldn’t appreciate that either – You know what you get here and that’s just fine.
