Norway keeps delivering great underground Black Metal bands and Sarkom can also be categorised as one. Actually Sarkom didn’t start that long ago. It was the end of 2002 that Unsgaard and Renton decided to start Sarkom and after having written some songs Sagstad was recruited as the guitarist. With this line-up the ‘Demo 2004’ was recorded in early 2004 by the band itself.
But let’s talk about the music now; Sarkom can be labeled as a true Norwegian Black Metal band and some comparable bands are Trelldom and Gorgoroth (the slower songs from Gorgoroth). The music sounds harsh as it is meant to be with this kind of Black Metal although sometimes the drums could have been a bit louder. But hey, it is just a demo which is recorded by the band itself so it cannot be compared to a professional studio job. So even though the sometimes weak drum sound, there is nothing to complain about ‘Demo 2004’. All four tracks are well written with interesting guitar- and basslines and pace changes which reminds me most to forementioned Trelldom and also the vocals remind me to Gaahl now and then. When listening to this demo it is clear that Sarkom is a band which will grow out to one of the bigger names within the scene and it won’t take long before a label offers them a record deal.
