Once again, Italian Black Metal outfit Orgrel throw out their newest incantation. ‘The Abyssal Terror’ is the name of their 2nd full-length released by Purity Through Fire in October of 2025 and it has shown to be a relentless continuation of previous releases.

‘Infernal Pursuit’ opens the album with clear, icy tremolo picked guitars and punishing blast beats that show a level of instrumental expertise and paired with the mid-tempo melodic breaks and d-beat style drums in-between, it shows a clear break up of sections and knowledgeable songwriting and producing.

Sitting at only 2 minutes, ‘Conqueror Of Forbidden Cosmos’ comes in towards the end of the album with a clear stylistic shift, swapping out the faster and more relentless sections with a doomy atmosphere, chanting vocals and lethargic guitar work, marking a feeling of fatigue and ritualistic desperation towards the end of the album before wrapping it up with the final attack of sound known as ‘Steel Storm Apocalypse’.

Orgrel has displayed a great level of skill with ‘The Abyssal Terror’ that blend both classic ideas of hatred and aggression with emotional obscurity and triumphant melody. With no known prior bands to do with the members, it comes as a great surprise the level of mastery of this legion. ‘The Abyssal Terror’ seems to be a very straightforward and typical take on 90s Black Metal, but nonetheless worth the listen.
