Info

Last Retch is a Hamilton, Ontario, Canada based Death Metal band consisting of five people that have no big or noteworthy history in other bands, at least, if the Allmighty (Encyclopaedia Metallum) is to be believed. It is not a very common thing to run into such a band, at least not when they are able to deliver such a hammering heavy demo tape as this one – simply called ‘Demo’.

This 3-track demo tape (also available on CD and for streaming through the bands’ Bandcamp-page) with a playing time of just under 10 minutes serves you with some of the best heavy sounding Death Metal. Not overly original, but I love the fact that they are able to blend Old School Death Metal with a more modern sounding brand of the genre. That makes them not only sound fresh, but it also makes them sound not overly dark, overly down-tuned or overly technical, but more or less a bit of everything, in an unpretentious way. You’ll get some nice chugging riffs, good deep vocals and nice drum work too, all laid in a near-perfect production – especially for demo standards. Musically this comes closest to the recent records of the Dutch Antropomorphia: they have a similar dark atmosphere, a slight technical twist, a brutal vocal delivery and a clear but dark production. Superb demo!
