The mighty Black/Thrash juggernaut from Germany; Desaster, toured with Behemoth and Svartsyn back in 1997, bringing the tunes of ‘A Touch of Medieval Darkness’ and the ‘Stormbringer’ EP to the masses. Nomad Snakepit Productions took the liberty to release the live registration of Desaster from that evening, as they previously did with the Svartsyn part of this gig.

The recording is raw and sharp, conveying the unpolished aggressiveness of those Desaster days. I’m not a huge fan of live registrations with one guitarist on stage, while the studio recordings have both a lead and rhythm guitar, which is hearable during the solos and leads. But my personal pet peeve aside, it breathes Desaster in 1997. Besides their own songs, among them ‘Fields of Triumph’ and ‘In a Winter Battle’, you will hear a Slayer (‘Black Magic’) and Kreator (’Tormentor’) cover as well.

For those who are fans of Desaster and enjoy their ‘A Touch of Medieval Darkness’ and ‘Stormbringer’ releases in particular, will find their way with this live album.
