Bloody Sign is no newcomer in the extreme world of metal. The French kings of darkened death metal return with their second record, named “Explosion of Elements”, four years after their debut on Ibex Moon Records. And Ibex Moon is the perfect host for Bloody Sign. The band fits the blackened death house style perfectly. Just like Incantation, “Explosion of Elements” has got the same dark and dirty overall feeling – Yet a bit different. A lot of typical death metal clichés are mixed up with influences of better known bands such as Immolation (“Serpent Sky Secrets”, don’t you just love that title!) and even Satyricon (“Winds of Vengeance”). Too bad those highlights are rather rare. Bloody Sign do have the right vibe, approach, skills and obscure spirit, nevertheless most songs tend to vanish into mediocrity. Another bad choice is the Massacra cover “Apocalyptic Warriors” with certainly great old school parts, but also the most suck classical intermezzo. It fucking sounds like a cow tying to tap dance. I have a twisted feeling of this latest Bloody Sign release: I like its style and the guys definitely know what they’re doing, though I think most death metal fans will see “Explosion of Elements” as another grey zone release…
