A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Info

Purgatory’s third cd. As I more or less only have experience with his band on a live level, I can’t really talk about their previous work. This cd contains nine tracks of fierce Death Metal. The songs sound good. They contain some good parts and the variation of riffs and speeds also sounds pretty good.

Purgatory uses a good combination of blastbeats and mid-tempo speeds that were quite regular within Death <etal around the beginning of the nineties (e.g. Suffocation). They use some sort of diabolical-sounding intermezzo on this album, entitled: ‘March Of The Eminent Beast’, which immediately functions for the brutal continuation of the album. Good riffing, sick vocals and tight play, although sometimes the double-bass shoots off track a bit.

It all ain’t very original, but actually ‘Blessed with Flames of Hate’ does sounds pretty ok to me, musically! Only thing is… the sound ain’t good. It should have been heavier, more brutal and clearer. The drums (especially the bassdrum) are too much on the background, and the guitar sound isn’t sharp enough, to name some. This would have made the album a lot better then that it’s now.

Too bad, really.
