Info

Nekro Cvlt Desecration is an uncompromising extreme metal band that formed in 2013 in Cabimas, Zulia (Venezuela) and has been active from Buenos Aires, Argentina, since 2018. They released their epic and notorious debut ‘Nekrosatani Alcoholocausto’ way back in 2016 — an album that has been through numerous re-releases in an ever-growing range of formats across South America, catapulting it into cult status.

I remember being baffled by the sheer power of their brand of whirlwind, Black/Thrash metal. And although they have a vivid scene and some truly legendary acts, Venezuela isn’t exactly known to the outside world for its many Metal bands — rather, for the annual Miss Venezuela contests. This album was followed by ‘The Psalm of the Black Goat’ EP and the three-band ‘South American Unholy Trinity’ split (with Vulvacult & Thy Dominion). December 2024 saw the birth of the ‘Revenge of South American Bestiality ‘ split with Brazilian black thrashers Blaphemaniac.

Their style is firmly rooted in Black/Thrash metal, with a clear nod to the raw, chaotic energy of the ’80s and the infamous South American extreme metal tradition in general. Musical themes revolve around alcohol, chaos, satanism, and blasphemy — all delivered with a distinctly underground ethos.

The new album is an insane rollercoaster of fast, aggressive staccato riffs, interspersed with more elaborate panned solos on their recent work; gruesome, raw screams with light reverb and delay for added demonic depth; tight, driving thrash beats; blast beats; and even rototoms for added percussive variety.

‘Purification in the Witchcraft’ bursts with the same energy as the ‘All Hell Breaks Loose’ comeback album from German Destruction from 2000, thankfully discarding the modern digital technologies of today. Classic ’80s Black/Thrash is unleashed (think early Slayer, Kreator), mixed with the ominous atmosphere of first-wave Black Metal (Venom, Bathory) and South American cult bands like Sarcófago, Vulcano, Holocausto, and Sextrash.

If any of these bands give you a hard willy, then I urge you to check out Nekro Cvlt Desecration. It wouldn’t surprise me if NWN!, Iron Bonehead, or Hells Headbangers picks up ‘Purification in the Witchcraft Flames’ for a fully-fledged American/European release. Burn. Burn! Burn the fukker down!
