Instrumental Black Metal from USA, and like Donarhall from Germany, which I reviewed recently, lots of entries in their discography concerning the years of existence. Evergreen Refuge already released 11 full-lengths, 2 splits and a live-album and just started back in 2011. Dylan Rupe, the bloke behind Evergreen Refuge, seems to be a fan of nature, elements of nature and the cosmos when looking at his album covers.
Most of his releases contain one or two very long songs and on “Skyward” there is no difference as it is one track of more than 1 hour. The Black Metal itself is towards the Cascadian scene with a bleak atmosphere complemented with long ambient and tribal soundscapes which can be experienced as minimalistic. I can imagine this tends to get tiresome for a few of you and for others this typical genre is a niche. Let’s just say Evergreen Refuge will only be interesting to check out for the last group of people. (Ricardo)
