London’s Mutagenic Host have returned with a two-track release. Having unleashed their debut album ‘The Diseased Machine’ at the beginning of 2025 these Londoners spread their apocalyptic and cybernetic wings across the British Death Metal scene. The album was by all means, a very successful debut that saw the band garner considerable fanfare and a mountain of positive critical attention.
Continuing with the mutated organic-lifeform meets genocidal killing machine thematic concepts that the debut delivered upon. The band continues to indulge their Obituary-brain through the lens of Suffocation/Cryptopsy sound palette. The first track ‘Grotesque Union’ is a thumping technical rager with reverb-washed vocals and some rather fine headbangable writing. I love the intermittent syncopation of double kick bass drums that really anchor the song, and the Eric Langlois-esque bass embellishments. The track is a short, catchy and blood-pumping listen.
‘Chimeric Vestige’ comes next and this track begins with the guitars and bass that open the song by taking turns trading duelling riff ideas. Once the full band begin taking compositional precedent, they then launch into a mixture of spicy aggressive rancour and disorientating technicality. The drums are allowed breathing room to display an agile backbone in the latter portion of the track that rapidly builds in intensity before the band crashes down towards a final section of slower-paced guitar palm mute-dominated playing.
This small release represents another breath of impressive creative output from this London five-piece. They’re a band who have placed a firm titanium cyborg footprint into the British scene, and these two tracks yet again leave me highly interested in whatever comes next from Mutagenic Host.
