Black Metal horde Modgudr from Germany have released a demo (‘The Ancient Days of Glory’ (2015)) and a split with Pestheim (‘Hymns from the Eternal Kingdom’ (2019)) prior to this debut full-length.
Modgudr plays their Black Metal in a more chaotic way, with that I mean there is a lot going on this album. On one hand you hear something from the 90s, than something from the early 00s while switching to a mixture of late Belphegor & Satyricon. You can exaggerate “to anyone’s liking”…
As said, you hear a lot, but for me it also results in the fact that I hear some good ideas but “Rebirth of the Ancient Spirit” doesn’t grab me as a whole.
