As most of you will know, drummer Pelle Ekegren is beating the shit out of the drumkit in Grave so I was anxious to know whether Coercion were still alive and kicking. And the first sign of life of Coercion since 1998’s ‘Delete’ album is an EP entitled ‘Lifework’. Good to hear these guys are still alive and kicking arse!

While many newer bands just started playing the good old Swedish Death Metal style because it’s popular to play nowadays, Coercion was one of those bands who kept playing this style throughout the years not that many people seemed to give a fuck. And that deserves respect god-damn-it!

The 5 songs on this record show that Coercion still sound extremely raw and heavy as before and they persevere in playing the good old Swedish Death Metal sound. I also hear some slight Crust edges to these new tunes but that might also be due to the sound which is very raw. The guitars could be a bit more upfront in the mix but cranking up the volume helps to shut my complaining up.

The pace changes, the lead guitars parts, the straightforward approach, those growls and the raw sound simply is like hell on the hottest day. Gotta love this shit, folks!
