This CD was foisted upon me at a concert featuring Arch Enemy, among others, at the Fenix, with the comment that it sounds like old In Flames. Apparently, this is supposed to capture the intensity that In Flames has lost a bit of.
Really, all I need to say is that this CD is out on the Wrong Again Records label. The guy who recommended it to me was wondering, just like I was, if this label had ever put out a bad release. We couldn’t think of any!
Well, I guess I’ll say something about the music: it really does sound like the old style of bands like Dark Tranquillity and In Flames, which means it’s some seriously aggressive Gothenburg Death Metal. There are 5 killer tracks that together last about 16 minutes. Yeah, too short again, but there’s nothing I can do about that. I have no idea how old the guys in this band are, but with the idea that a lot of Swedish bands consist of very young musicians, I’m really curious to see how this band develops.
First, let’s wait for a full-length album; if they keep going like this, I expect a serious competitor to bands like Dark Tranquillity, In Flames, and Dissection, etc. Shame on me, I only noticed this when I had already finished this review: the vocalist is the same from Armageddon, or there are 2 Jonas Nyren’s running around in Sweden who are also both on the WAR label. Here, Jonas reminds me a bit of Internal Decay (does anyone remember their godly ‘A forgotten dream’ album?) and sounds a bit different from the average singer in this genre.
Kudos!
