Info

Haunting Figure is a new band from Providence, Rhode Island, USA. That is pretty much all the information available about this act, otherwise it shrouds itself in mists. Still it caught the attention from Primitive Propaganda, that label opted for a reissue of this first demo on a physical cassette tape.

A choice that indicates wisdom as ‘Demo I’ is definitely a demo tape that shows quality and considerable taste in Old School Black Metal. Very orthodox in approach, Haunting Figure cleverly blends in the Oldest of Schools sort of Hellhammer sounding riffs with slow, haunting Lo-Fi Black Metal, almost bordering Depressive Black Metal. While being predominantly slow, it breathes an obvious Punk attitude as well, possibly leaning on the genre blueprints of early Darkthrone and Ildjarn. This makes ‘Demo I’ enjoyable for aficionados of the more bare boned riff driven sort of Black Metal of Akitsa, Bone Awl and the aforementioned Ildjarn. That punk-like perspective is also evident in the ultimate raw, garage-like production and the playing time of just 8 minutes, which are spread over four songs. If you these sort of bands are right up your Black Metal alley, you really should consider investing those mere eight minutes of your life in giving this one a shot.
