Ysbryd from Germany existed for 6 years, as main man Gestalt, also involved or was involved with acts like Blodsvart, Draugrhanaz, Primaire and Grattler to name a few, called it a day in November 2023. The same moment his 4th full-length and swansong, ‘Frei’, was released.

After exploring the first chapter of his musical story, we turn the page to review his final work. ‘Frei’ has a melancholic atmosphere which meets pagan fury in tremolo riffs, punctuated by ominous slow passages. There is always a veil of tension in Gestalt’s Black Metal. The vocals are raspy alternated with a kind of shout-like vocals, a bit in the  Dodheimsgard’s  ‘Kronet Til Konge’ style.

For those who are familiar with Ysbryd or a a fan of the German scene, ‘Frei’ is worth to check out.
