First things first: drummer here is none other but Kevin Talley, the guy who drummed for Suffocation and Misery Index and hundreds of others extreme bands. The Bastard Within is an international project by the Italians Davide Stura on bass, Gianluca Sulpizio on guitar, CN Sid behind the mike and the ferocious drum machine Kevin Talley.
What you will get from “Better Dead Than Friends” is an overdose in the form of 22 grinding sonic grenades. This is oldschool Grindcore with modern sound filled with blast beats and shredding guitar riffs. You will hear the insane structures of Brutal Truth mixed with the dark tunes of Terrorizer and the occasional crust/d-beat passages in between the grinding madness. There are tracks that are several seconds but most of them are almost three minutes so we have a good variety.
I am happy to see that the Slovakian label Immortal Sould Productions is still around (the label was established in 1992!) and they have such a crushing release in 2020. If you are into Grindcore with a twist then “Better Dead Than Friends” is definitely worth checking! (Zvetan)
