Yrr – Vanhat Haavat Ovat Auenneet [Demo]

yrr – vanhat haavat ovat auenneet [demo]

Info

Yrr is a project formed in Finland. It was formed by the sole band member, also called YRR, who had previously contributed to the bands Yrrthorn and Grimsvötn. On the first demo of the band, digitally released in February 2022 and entitled ‘Vanhat Haavat Ovat Auenneet’, YRR took care of all instrument as well as the vocals.

The demo consists of two tracks that each clock in at around four minutes. After a short atmospheric intro, ‘Vihan Musta Liekki’ kicks off ‘Vanhat Haavat Ovat Auenneet’ with typical Scandinavian, but mostly very Norwegian sounding Black Metal. The guitar sound is pretty raw, with a thick bass rumble on top of the (programmed?) drums, while YRR’s growling screams have the right touch of reverb on them. The opening track is straightforward with fairly bareboned riffs and a to the point song structure, with just a few variations in tempo. To be honest, it doesn’t really need much more than that. The following song has the same second wave Norwegian Black Metal sound of for instance Satyricon and Darkthrone of the first song but adds a little bit more in terms of dynamics to the song. It’s really nothing you haven’t heard before countless times before, but it’s done well and with passion and has a strong sense of authenticity. One can only appreciate that from a new band. By no means a shocking demo, but a solid first attempt.
