Floridian duo Worm hold in one hand a world of richly dark melody, and in the other one of morbidly hostile intensity. Their brand new EP ‘Bluenothing’ aims to bring both hands together and unite both worlds through a lavish amount of blackened synth and haunting organ tones that shroud and weave around crushingly heavy riffs with an almost glacial tempo.
Rising up through Lovecraftian mists, and released on all formats by US label 20 Buck Spin, ‘Bluenothing’ offers up four tracks of calculating darkness dwelling Doom Metal whose rigidly controlled feral nature absorbs influences from the halls of both Death and Black Metal.
Monolithically sparse drum tones sound out with grandiose acclaim and add an echoing backdrop to the visceral growling baritone and monastic chanting which lend this EP so much of its lingering atmospheric power. Encased within artwork resembling a bleak, blue tinged carnival of the dead, ‘Bluenothing’ is a darkly enticing package, as well as an engaging, disturbing listening experience. (Marksson)
