Ungod – Conquering What Once Was Ours [EP / Re-Release]

ungod – conquering what once was ours [ep / re-release]

Info

Originally released as a mini CD and tape back in 1996 with rather ugly artwork, this EP got its re-release twelve years later on vinyl including a rehearsal tape recorded in 1995. Now fully re-done, including great new diabolic artwork by one of the best artists of today, Chris Moyen, and in several different versions when it comes to extra gadgets and vinyl colours. It is available in die-hard version (blue vinyl) with shirt/patch/button and also in black and clear red vinyl, the latter one comes with patch and all of these versions comes with a huge poster of the great artwork.

Musically, this is rather typical mid-nineties raw black metal (which does not mean it sounds like Cradle Of Filth), pretty much a minimalistic approach to black metal with still loads of melody. With a very clear production, especially compared to any of the earlier works, that leaves enough room for the disonant riffing, the rumbling bass guitar and the pummeling drums. The music comes through as quite primitive and the rock ‘n’ roll kind of approach only adds to the primal vibe of the record. Together with the drums its the raw and screamy-kind of vocals adds to the comparison to old Impaled Nazarene here and there. The B-side of the vinyl has all tracks minus one in a rehearsal version, recorded in September 1995, it is quite nice to hear how these songs were crafted, but it’s the original EP tracks that it is all about here.

With this release, Ungod announced their return and they are said to be working on new material for a future release, also on Kneel Before The Masters Throne Records…
