Tomhet – Reveries of the Wraith [EP]

tomhet – reveries of the wraith [ep]

Info

The second part of Tomhet’s 2022 came in the form of a three track EP entitled ‘Reveries of the Wraith’. this time around the EP is a self-released digital affair, though who knows what label interest might arise in the future. Following my review of Tomhet’s bleak and excessively lengthy album ‘Blissful Escapism’, its a welcome to change to review a three track EP. Said EP has a slow, droning quality to it that I really like. The drums are simple yet effective, the riffs are bleak, long drawn out affairs that fit the EP’s sound perfectly, and the Dark Ambient undertone is suitable sincere and dark.

Sound wise this EP is far clearer than the previous album, and rather than focussing on lo-fi Black Metal has a far more grinding sound that I much prefer. Or, in the case of ‘Fragments’, is just a long drawn out melody created purely for the simplicity and clarity of the sound. The EP finished with the reverb drenched tones of ‘Syzygy’ which continues the deeply melodic feel of the release whilst rising steadily to an intense, enjoyable crescendo. If I’m to call a spade a spade, this EP is far superior to the previous album and the far more enjoyable listening experience.
