Sutekh Hexen / 夢遊病者 (Sleepwalker) – Sutekh Hexen / 夢遊病者 [Split]

sutekh hexen / 夢遊病者 (sleepwalker) – sutekh hexen / 夢遊病者 [split]

Info

The underground blacknoise outfit Sutekh Hexen bring us a two-track split along with 夢遊病者 (Sleepwalker), a sonically undefinable black metal project whose members vary in influences, cultures, and geological locations (Russia, Japan). While this split is just over 9 minutes in length, there is a lot to uncover.

The first track sees Sutekh Hexen providing what could only be described as a 6 minute psychedelic seascape of black metal infused industrial noise, which simultaneously feels washed out and leaves you barely breathing, as it brings a suffocating atmosphere of blackened noise, harsh vocals, and dark waving synth looming in the background. This is a track you should lay back and take in, as opposed to treating it as easy listening.

The second track is a chaotic, experimental, genre-bending piece of black metal performed by 夢遊病者. This track features traditional instrumentation that cannot simply be described but works well with the chaotic noisy black metal elements. On top of that, we get deep vocal chanting at some points, chimes and bells, traditional drums (indescribable as to what culture they are coming from), as well as heavy-metal style guitar solos flowing through the blackened noise and harsh screeched vocals. All of these elements fit into a snug 4-minute track, which ends up feeling like a rush of insanity (in a good way).

All-in-all, this split is a great release for both bands that perfectly demonstrates what each group can bring to the table. If you are looking for an ocean of noise and blackened industrial goodness followed by a genre-bending black metal chaosphere, look no further. There is nothing negative that stands out about this release. You won’t want to miss this. (NoahC)
