Slakter – Warmageddon [EP]

Info

Okay, admittedly, the name of this EP is a bit cheesy and rather simplistic. But then again, it is the first EP from this Indonesian band and despite the somewhat childish title, it is nothing they should be ashamed of.

These four tracks with a total playing time of merely 13 minutes offer a nice slab of Death/Thrash Metal that leaves very little to the imagination. Good crunchy guitars, aggressive, throaty barking vocals and a predominantly high tempo dominate these four songs. They have also added a pinch of Black Metal for good measure. And, no, there’s nothing that you can remotely label as something you haven’t heard before, but on the other hand, it doesn’t sound like a straight copy of any other band. The most remarkable of this EP is the recording quality and the musicianship, according to Metal-Archives none of these four musicians have appeared in other bands before, but I find that hard to believe. I suppose this is a classic case of the incompletion of the website, as these guys truly know their game. The drums are really tightly played and there’s quite a bit of a good quality guitar leads as well. And, finally, if this really is a debut from inexperienced musicians, I take my hat off to the good and rather heavy sound of this EP. These guys might just not have aimed for anything remotely original and that is what they came up with: a good sounding debut EP of some Blackened Thrash Metal with some great guitar leads.
