Rotten Coffin – The Agony In Slumber

rotten coffin – the agony in slumber

Info

Rotten Coffin come from Portugal and ‘The Agony in Slumber’ is their debul full-length album. What you will get here are 11 tracks (including intro and outro) of darkened Death Metal with some melodic touch. The melody parts come mainly from the remarkable lead guitar work of Ze Rodrigues and Guilherme Abreu who are also able to write powerful riffs. The beginning is set by the explosive ‘Barren Landscapes’ which offers speed, heaviness and the deep growls of the vocalist Devourer (real name Sergey Koreshkov and as you can guess by his name, the guy is Russian). ‘Looming Shades of Mind’ is more mid-tempo with a hysterical blast-beat part in the middle. ‘Grim Megalith’ follows and it incorporates the Death Metal brutality with some Black Metal passages. ‘Torment Parallax’ reminds of the melodic death mastery of Edge Of Sanity which seems to be one of the main sources of inspiration for Rotten Coffin. Traces of Grave and Wombbath can also be heard in the music of this Portuguese band. The sound production is on a very good level and each instrument can be clearly heard. So if you are in need of some quality death metal with high-class melodic solos and a pinch of Black Metal then the debut album of Rotten Coffin is something that you will want to hear. Check them out!
