Ribspreader – Suicide Gate – A Bridge to Death

Info

Rogga Johansson must be one of the most active and hard-working musicians in the world. Among his several projects (I lost count, already) there are names like Necrogod, Paganizer, Revolting and Putrevore. Some are better than others, obviously. No mortal can keep so many projects at the same time and deliver the same level of quality. Ribspreader, I dare to say, is one of the projects that stands out from the crowd. Excellent Swedish-style death metal with heavy doses of great riffs and power! And this new album, the first one recorded after calling it quits in 2014, (released by Spanish label Xtreem Music in June 2016) is no exception! Throughout their slightly longer than a decade history, there was no lack of talent helping Rogga (guitars, bass, vocals). For a brief period they even had “master” Dan Swanö on their ranks (between 2003 and 2005). Veterans Jeramie Kling (drums) and Taylor Nordberg (lead guitars), both ex-Wombbath (among other bands) joined just in time to participate on the last album. “Suicide Gate – A Bridge to Death” is a very consistent album with almost no flaws, where the full musical potential of Rogga and the rest of the gang gets once again demonstrated on nine tracks totalling a little more than 30 minutes. Let’s hope this new chapter on the band’s history continues for several years and many recordings, because they’re needed among the amalgam of Swedish death metal bands existing today. Get this if you’re into Grave and Carnage. (Antonio)
