Serpents Oath – Revelation

Info

I am sure we all have experienced that deja vu moment. Be it in whatever we do or the occasion at hand. So while sitting in to listen to this, the latest release from Serpents Oath, I was put with that sensation. I get to looking at the cover art, and I see it is the same artist and theme across all their releases, if not just an expansion of the initial concept, but similar nonetheless. Same can be said for presentation. All black with gold accents of varying degrees. Now onto my main issue. The music is almost the same across all 3 releases. Same sound, same 3-4 interludes and same songwriting from album to album. The only change, be it minor, is the production for each release, but that is very similar across the board.

Now I don’t mean to be negative because musically they are quite good, coming across similar (there is that word again) to Dark Funeral, Lord Belial and maybe God Dethroned. There are the dark evil ragers and some more mood-inducing tracts that accent the provided instrumentals. What’s funny is, I do find their sound enjoyable. But once you get one album, why bother with getting the others? Now I know I will get plenty of hate mail telling me of my mental ineptness and sheer lack of musical understanding and I accept that. So take a listen for yourselves and if at the very least take in the always amazing artwork of Néstor Avalos.
