Opaque Blue – Ocean’s Exquisite Mist [Demo]

opaque blue – ocean’s exquisite mist [demo]

Info

This new Raw Black Metal band was born as a side-project of Black Stem Rust, an interesting but quirky Black Metal act from Bosnia And Herzegovina. With ‘Ocean’s Exquisite Mist’, the anonymous souls behind this new moniker lay their first feat on the table.

The music on this less than 20-minute demo has a suffocating sound, bordering on Lo-Fi but with definite elements of Atmospheric Black Metal as well. This is not least because of the use of synths, which keep buzzing in the background. The main role, however, is claimed by the somewhat harsh drums in the mix and guitars reminiscent of the sound of synthesisers. The somewhat mottled vocals are tucked away deep in the overall sound, reinforcing the aforementioned oppressive atmosphere.

The three tracks, do all seem to have a slightly different ambiance to them. Especially the last track has a distinctly different feel, this particular track has the most Lo-Fi production and the most intriguing slow and repetitive riffs, making it by far the most compelling and downright best track of the demo. It evokes a similar atmosphere as heard on some of the best early Xasthur works. Disheartening and bleak to its very core.

Don’t let the rather uninspiring artwork fool you, behind this everyday and even somewhat lifeless cover is a world of overwhelming depth. The music’s melancholy and sheer depressiveness is not in the least reflected through its cover, still the music on ‘Ocean’s Exquisite Mist’ is just exactly mirroring the wretchedness of ever day’s life.
