Northwind Wolves – Dark… Cold… Grim…

northwind wolves – dark… cold… grim…

Info

Phone call for Northwind Wolves…phone call for Northwind Wolves…It is the Scandinavian Melodic/Symphonic Black Metal scene of the 1990s. They want their music back! Can’t say Astaroth Sinstorm & Co. from the US are hiding their influences for one bit. The symphonic keyboards of Dimmu Borgir’s “Enthrone Darkness Triumphant” are clearly at the front, as well as the melodic approach of Galder during his early Old Man’s Child days. Children of Bodom is present as well, but only during the occasional up-tempo shredding and some melodic riffs, like they did on their first 2 albums. Also a fast Limbonic Art reference can be heard on a track like “Chamber of the Shadowlord”. Frankly, this could be interesting as only a few try to play this particular style. Only thing missing is writing a memorable track as I hear a lot of ideas, variations and riffs, but it just doesn’t stick. You can say what you want about a track like Dimmu Borgir’s “Mourning Palace” or “In Death’s Embrace”, but after one listen it sticks in most minds, it is recognizable. In my opinion the guys behind Northwind Wolves are using to many ideas in their songs on “Dark… Cold… Grim…” and hopefully they make better decisions with their follow-up. As said, this could be interesting. (Ricardo)
