Nekrovault – Cursed By Ascended Darkness [EP]

nekrovault – cursed by ascended darkness [ep]

Info

A quick two track EP from Germany’s marauding and brooding Death Metal beast Nekrovault. ‘Cursed By Ascended Darkness’ is the bands sophomoric EP and features just the two tracks, the title track and a cover version of Morbid’s ‘Necrodeath’. As with all of Nekrovault’s releases, this EP was released by German label Ván Records, this time on a glorious looking 7″ vinyl. The opening track is a Blitzkrieg of soaring guitar solos, furious grunting vocals, dark riffs and a rampaging drumming style, accompanied by a solid bass line. Future Nekrovault releases will have a far slower and more cavernous sound, and whilst there are hints at that direction during this track through some slower, calculating rhythms, here Nekrovault showcase a technical yet bludgeoning style. Their cover versions of Morbid’s ‘Necrodeath’ is a welcome addition to this impressive 7″ vinyl package; of a rawer disposition to the bands usual style as you would expect from a cover of a 1987 demo recording, and despite being a Swedish Death Metal track, there is just a touch of early Sepultura about the guitar tones. Great little EP this, and would then lead on to a stunning debut album, a review of which has just been posted. Enjoy!
