Necroccultus – Supreme Occult One… The Underworld Abhorrence [EP]

necroccultus – supreme occult one… the underworld abhorrence [ep]

Info

At the time this 7” EP was released the band already split up, or not very long after. So these Mexicans will never come much further then an underground status amongst underground collectors. Still they managed to release a demo, two EPs, a split EP and an album in their three years of existence. This is the last of their releases, an 7” EP on one of Swedish best underground labels: Blood Harvest.

Their mixture of black, death and thrash metal is not quite original or very refreshing and reminds on a load of demo-tapes that circulated like 15-20 years ago. Which shouldn’t be regarded as a bad thing, at all, as the old recipe of good ancient metal is still working and even seems to get a bit more attention by the metalcrowd of today. Yet, the music of Necroccultus isn’t much exciting or mind-boggling at all, it never gets very interesting and at some point one would forget there is some music playing. I can’t say this is very bad but I also can’t deny I am not very enthusiastic, which I regret as I am usually a big fan of this kind of music. For those who are seeking for some references, think of the chaotic Asian sound (like Abhorrer) with the riffing of Morbid Angel (though a little more shrieking) and you practically have your up-tempo black/death/thrash metal that sounds like Necroccultus.
