Morbid Destroyer – Accursed Summoning [Demo]

morbid destroyer – accursed summoning [demo]

Info

Morbid Destroyer, a band with a more than appropriate name, releases its first demo with ‘Accursed Summoning’ – not counting the short digital promo from 2022. But despite this being the band’s first real feat, we are by no means dealing with rookies here. A quick look at the line-up reveals that we are dealing with musicians who have earned their stripes in bands like Abazagorath, Siege Column and Altar Of Gore (as well as many others). And we can clearly hear that experience on these recordings.

Although we are presented with eight songs here, the playing time is only 15 minutes, which not only sets the musical tone but actually lets us know in advance what we, more or less, can expect. While certainly not a Grindcore band at heart, the blueprint of Repulsion’s unforgettable classic (and only album) ‘Horrified’ is unmistakably present. With these vocals, it’s hard not to sing along to the occasional tune in your mind (“You are rotting… Maggots in your coffin!“). However, it doesn’t end there, as Morbid Destroyer is at its deepest core a Black/Death Metal band that is musically very close to a band like Katharsis. An ultimate rough husk that is both abrasive and ugly, powerful and revolting, energetic and pure, but above all it is beautifully evil. So, when you have plodded through all those evil and vile sounding riffs, the blistering fast drums and the barking vocals, you can not but conclude that this is indeed a very accursed summoning. It is the sort of evil that you, whether you like to or not, are fatally attracted to.

For now the demo is only available as a digital stream through the band’s Bandcamp page, but there is a physical release being worked on. But at most I would be surprised if this demo doesn’t get a larger or broader follow-up. Starting with a proper issue of this title, as it is absolutely vinyl-worthy, yet it also promises a good future.
