Mor Dagor – Redeemer

Info

The fifth album of Mor Dagor, originally a German Black Metal band, after almost 20 years of existence. I first heard of them back in 2004, right after the release of “Necropedophilia”. Can’t say they made an impact on me back then. Nowadays they evolved more into a combination of Black and Death Metal using dual like vocals like Deicide’s Glen Benton. The use of the mid-tempo staccato riffs reveals a kind of late Satyricon influence, while the faster parts are more Watain—like and the hyper-fast parts reminds me of Marduk. And sometimes the peculiarity of late Mayhem. The sound is clear and modern, which also can be said of the approach. It’s not really my cup of tea. When I put on an album which contains a blend of Black a Death Metal, I’m not really looking for a track like “Message of Salvation” or “Peace Through Superior Firepower” for example. It’s a bit to clinical or to modern for my taste. If you are able to walk the path of late Watain, Satyricon, Belphegor, Mayhem and Behemoth, you will probably enjoy this more than I do. I think I’m too “Grieghallen” for this. (Ricardo)
