Moenen Of Xezbeth – Dawn Of Morbid Sorcery [Demo / Re-Release]

moenen of xezbeth – dawn of morbid sorcery [demo / re-release]

Info

Hot on the heals of the band’s debut 7” EP, ‘Forever Rotting Winter’ in 2017, Moenen Of Xezbeth also released this 5-track demo tape (including an intro) in the same year. The release of ‘Dawn Of Morbid Sorcery’ put them even more firmly on the map of the then up and coming Belgian Black Metal scene. Hailed by many as the new incarnation of the long and almost forgotten occult Black Metal of the late 80’s and very early 90’s.

These five tracks did not simply continue where ‘Forever Rotting Winter’ left off, it further expanded its depth and truly occult ambiance, very much living up to its very title. The somewhat muffled sound with an equally murky guitar tone delves straight back into those early days of Necromantia, Samael, Varathron and Mortuary Drape. The use of moody keyboards is sounding so authentic that you could easily fool someone and make them believe that this was actually recorded somewhere in Athens around 1990 or so. Those who claim to have a penchant for old and occult Black Metal in the vein of the aforementioned bands as well as early Beherit, Goatlord, Barathrum and Moenen Of Xezbeth’s brothers in arms Forbidden Temple and Perverted Ceremony do not have any excuse to pass up this (final?) version of one of the best Black Metal demos in recent years.

With such outstanding quality it is no surprise that after an independently released version of this demo tape (in only 66 copies) it was reissued by Darkness Attack Records (run by Impurath of Black Witchery and Diocletian) and has been “repressed” two more times. But a vinyl version was missing ever since, fortunately, the most active supporter of their own scene, Medieval Prophecy Records, now finally issued it on a great 12” EP, of which some of them came on ‘Rotting Corpse’-green vinyl and with a small print of the original demo art.
