Machetazo / Total Fucking Destruction – Slimewave Edition One Of Six [Split EP]

machetazo / total fucking destruction – slimewave edition one of six [split ep]

Info

This is the first edition of the Slimewave Series, it’s a bit like a McDonalds concept, but if you collect all six of them you have a picture of a deranged alien being dissected when you put all six covers together. The idea is not exactly new, but it still works as a marketing strategy, even I fell for it…

First of all we have the Spanish death metal/grindcore heavy weights Machetazo doing their thing pretty damn well. Not much to say about their two songs if you’re into the bands, its nothing new under the sun for them. Which means, for those who aren’t familiar with the band yet, downtuned grindcore in the style of early Carcass doing the Razorback sound with gurgly vocals and cranked up guitars with buzzy bass and pummelling drums. It blends well with a rock ‘n’ roll swing-along, Machetazo never disappoints!
On the other side there is the musical equivalent of a Parkinson-patient being treated on a speed diet with loads magic mushrooms: Total Fucking Destruction. That is what you’ll get if you let such patients use instruments and record it. Everyone who has seen them live will know what I mean. Total frantic madness, fast grindcore chaos. Freaky to the core and with a sound and song structure that is hard to follow they will definitely appeal to those ‘freakcore’ fans and so-called elite noise-addicts. The three tracks on this side of the 7” EP definitely promise total annihilation for the upcoming full-length album on Bones Brigade Records this summer.

All of the 7” EPs in this series are handnumbered and limited to 1000 copies, but they seem to move really fast, so this could be such a future classic series, for those who care. Anyway, big thumps up for Relapse for reviving some of their best traditions, they did get their status by releasing these kind of great 7” EPs back in the days. This split 7” EP was release as red on white splatter vinyl, for collectors info.
