Legacy of Emptiness – Over the Past

legacy of emptiness – over the past

Info

Throughout the years I haven’t heard many new Symphonic Black Metal albums. Maybe I wasn’t looking in the right direction, or the bands within the genre were struggling a bit too much with their music. Some were drifting too much into the bombastic and theatrical style so the more mainstream listeners picked it up, but leaving fans of the first hour behind. So I have to say it is a nice first encounter with Legacy of Emptiness, who do play Symphonic Black Metal, but more the end 1990s way. The period of time the bands do use synths but also understand the guitar is an important instrument to create the melody within a song as well. I do hope they will continue in the way they have written the opening track “Reminisce” which I consider their strongest one on this album. Listen to a couple of songs if you are into end 1990s Dimmu Borgir or Obtained Enslavement, you will not hear something exceptional but there are not a lot of new releases in this particular style.
