Kommand – Death Age

kommand – death age

Info

From the city of angels comes this Death Metal band that spawned a few demos (also compiled as ‘The Demos’ on vinyl and cassette tape in 2019) and a debut album, ‘Terrorscape’, released in the summer of 2020. On these first recordings the band already showed to be a forced to be reckoned with, their Old School approach feels both familiar and on a weird way even some kind of refreshing. This new and very short album, only clocking 26 minutes, is their latest achievement on which they continue their chosen path.

‘Death Age’ is as simple as it is effective and as short as it is lethal, boldly riff-heavy and utterly brutal in its straightforwardness. The caveman-like vocals and the equally heavy production emphasizes the album’s musical intentions, it doesn’t take any prisoners and with its rather up-tempo pace it makes sure to crush you whole. The short playing time, which incidentally was also the case on the previous album (even slightly shorter) proves to be a perfect choice again, by keeping it short and powerful the album takes maximum advantage of its brutality, energy and power. Thus, the album, of only six songs, still remains fresh and powerful sounding while not giving you anything that will throw you off track in terms of originality or execution. While a lot of this sort of Death Metal, leaning towards the cavernous brand, is not always quite like good wine or cheese, getting better with age, this album actually maintains its energy spin after spin. So, yes: simple, effective, short and lethal.
