Jade – The Pacification Of Death

jade – the pacification of death

Info

The German/Spanish Melodic Death Metal band released a demo in 2018 but went silent afterwards, it wasn’t until the very end of 2022 that the band finally returned with their debut album, ‘Pacification Of Death’. The album is released by the renowned Pulverized Records, the same label that also put their 2018 demo out on 12” vinyl back in 2019, so both team up for the band’s grand return.

Or, well, grand? Is it? The musical path chosen on the band’s demo recordings are basically continued on this debut album, further deepening and expanding their musical aspirations. The Melodic Death Metal is still very much tinged with equally Melodic Doom/Death Metal that especially vocally bears some resemblances with The Prophecy’s Matt Lawson. But it never reaches the depth and extreme dynamics of such a band, in fact, while executed very well, it never gets wings anywhere throughout the album. The album flows on smoothly, without any sharpness in song writing, epic atmosphere or otherwise outstanding or challenging elements. The rather flatfooted music just ripples by quietly and mostly unnoticed. The most notable about the music is the good production, but that is simply not enough to save this from utter mediocrity. Not even does the amazing artwork by Adam Burke, who also contributed equally incredible artwork for bands such as Altars, Blaze Of Sorrow, Hooded Menace and Gatecreeper.

Without meaning to sound crude or disrespectful, but the band already gave away the musical content with its title, ‘The Pacification Of Death’ is in fact just that: it takes away all the power of the music. Making peace with the Death Metal genre results in a bland sounding blur without any bite.
