Graveater – ... Of Harrowing Remains [Demo]

graveater – ... of harrowing remains [demo]

Info

Graveater is a new band from Estonia consisting of two members that gained their experience in bands such as Sküllfükk SS, Degeneratör and Ziegenhorn. With ‘… Of Harrowing Remains’ the duo brings forth their first demo tape, which had its initial release at the very beginning of 2022 and got two reissues already by both Headsplit Records and Filth Junkie Records.

The four tracks of the demo tape, clocking well over 20 minutes, make no secret of the band’s most prominent influences. It really breathes Possessed, Death and Autopsy, its festering and brooding sound is really bringing you all the way back to Autopsy’s ‘Severed Survival’-album and the maniacal vocals are your purest Jeff Becerra/Chuck Schuldiner worship. Yet, to even sound more old school the vocals were given a healthy portion of reverb. Speaking of sound, this demo’s production is raw and has this so appealing analogue ambience. So, if we were to drill it down to its basics, ‘… Of Harrowing Remains’ does not bring anything new to the table. Instead it does bring a great sounding homage to those early mid- to late 80’s Death Metal and they do it with such a dedication and conviction that you can easily mistake this demo for a forgotten one from some 35 years ago.

It is no wonder that the band recently was picked up by the Italian Everlasting Spew Records. A label that seems to be more and more the new go-to-label for great, old school and evil sounding Death Metal, definitely a great home for Graveater.
