Funeral Whore / Obscure Infinity – Summon the Undead

Info

Wait a minute! You’re into Old School Death Metal? The Real Deal? Do I have your attention? Well, look no further…This 3 track split breaths putridness like your grandmother on a Sunday morning after an evening of hard liquor accompanied with garlic bread and Cheesy Poofs. Quite a disturbing picture isn’t it? Funeral Whore from The Netherlands released a more than convincing debut with “Stepped into Damnation” released by Chaos Record and got signed by F.D.A. Rekotz (same label as Obscure Infinity) to release their forthcoming second album. In the mean time they weren’t wasting their musical talents and kept on writing new deadly tunes, which resulted in this split. The tracks of Funeral Whore beholds some touches of Grave, Asphyx and Autopsy, but mostly it’s a huge kick in the groin o’ Bolt Thrower. Mostly midtempo, groovy, riff driven Old School Death Metal with a fitting growl. It’s always the trick, when it comes to midtempo Death Metal, to keep it interesting for the listener. Well, let me assure you, Funeral Whore keeps it interesting the whole fuckin’ time! If Bolt Thrower will record ever again and do an extensive tour, I know a perfect support act. Let’s move on to Obscure Infinity which released a great second album if you ask me. I mentioned quite some old Unanimated and old Dissection influences and sound on that album which surprised me. They shifted a bit with the track “Manic Destroyer”. The melodic part in the beginning of the track, which comes back as supporting riff during the solo in the middle, has still a Dissection feeling, only more “Reinkaos” like with the sound of “The Somberlain”. The fast parts are 100% Vomitory in my ears. This is a killer split! (Ricardo)
