Fueled by Fire – Past...Present...No Future

Info

California’s Fueled by Fire have finally returned in the year 2021 since the release of their last full length album “Trapped in Perdition” in 2013.  Since then, they were most likely forgotten in the myriad of other fantastic Thrash bands such as Gama Bomb or Lich King.  Fortunately though, this band is making a comeback with a vengeance one song at a time. In 2021, they released a nice little EP containing two great songs titled “Past…Present…No Future Part I.”  Both songs have had single releases.  Were they both worth hearing?  Absolutely.  However, there was recently a Part II released with two more songs of the identical caliber.  Those two songs also were released individually as singles, as well.  Recently, the band have released the two EPs just titled “Past…Present…No Future.”  While Metal Archives has that particular version listed as a compilation, I would say that more accurately, it is just a more finalized four song EP.  Released singularly as two different smaller EPs, the songs come off as teasers which force a Thrash Metal enthusiast to beg for more table scraps from this returning quartet.

As a four song EP, though, Fueled by Fire’s “Past…Present…No Future” is a force to reckon with.  Firstly, the sound quality is fantastic.  This is the sound I will always cherish of the late 80’s.  I could not help but feel the overall vibe of Destruction’s absolute classic “Eternal Devastation” on this release.  The vocals were a healthy mixture of those almost falsetto vocals Schmier would occasionally bark out on such well remembered songs such as “Life Without Sense.”

The first song “Disrupt” begins with an undeniably fun groove, which tells you exactly what the rest of this release is going to be.  Throughout these four songs, the group does fine on offering moments of blistering speed while constantly throwing in some slower tempo changes.  I was entertained throughout all four songs on repeated listens and while doing so, was wishing that this release never had an ending or at least was a full length release with around 40 minutes of music.  The 15 and a half minutes of music on this EP were insanely enjoyable, though.  Sadly, all good things must come to an end.  The light at the end of the tunnel though, is that I am now fully convinced that Fueled by Fire have indeed returned at full force and will hopefully have more music delivered in due time.  In the meantime, I will continue to listen to this fantastically paced EP, while foaming at the mouth and waiting for more.  Highly recommended for those wishing the classic Destruction era of the late 80’s  never ended.  (Old Man Stares)
