Fall Of Seraphs – From Dust To Creation

fall of seraphs – from dust to creation

Info

The first thing I thought of when I saw the band name was the Mayhem song from their 1997 ‘Wolf’s Lair Abyss’ mini LP, but clear enough, this French Death Metal band has not named itself after that, nor after the Brosnan/Neeson film (Seraphims Fall). The band will probably refer to the heavenly being that appears in the Hebrew Bible and is considered to be the highest order of angels. Or perhaps to the ‘Seraphic kiss’, which is another designation for oral sex….

Anyway: Fall Of Seraphs. A low-profile Death Metal band from the west of France who have already released an EP and a split CD (with Trepanator) via Triumph Ov Death. Both releases contained quite standard and not very elevating Death Metal. This ‘From Dust To Creation’ is the first full-length of the band, which is released more than 4 years after their last feat. This debut album has the same sound as for instance Malevolent Creation, Vomitory or Vader, but does not reach that level in any of the songs. After a few listens, I can only say that this album is just about the same: it doesn’t sound all that bad, but it does not convince anywhere. It is well played and recorded, but the songs lack any spark and sounds uninspired. The five-piece band does try to add some dynamics by changing tempos a lot and the guitar work is quite wild and sounds fierce – including some Vader-esque solos. Vocalist Olaf does his best to make something of it too, but apart from a few good riffs here and there, the band still does not succeed in convincing.
