Ceremonial Execution – Black God Rising [EP]

ceremonial execution – black god rising [ep]

Info

Before I read Blood Harvest was going to release this 7” EP I never heard of this Swedish band called Ceremonial Execution, so I didn’t know what to expect. Well, I did not know what to expect in detail as Blood Harvest is not a label of big surprises, style-wise that is! A bit of searching on the internet learns that the band once had Jonas Albrektsson in their line-up who got his musical fame though bands like Retaliation, Thy Primordial and Indungeon. Other than that, these guys are pretty much unknown and ready to earn or conqueror their own piece of the Swedish death metal legacy.

Though these three songs are not quite your shock-and-awe kind of death metal they are bringing some pretty decent death metal, the Swedish way – no wonder. Basically they are clearly a Swedish death metal band with a tad of Asphyx and the likes of Autopsy. Yet, they know how to twist it in a form of their own by taking it to a bit of a higher technical level than we are used to from a Swedish death metal band and add a some not-over-the-top melodies. Vocal wise Robert “Gorebert” Kardell reminds me on a heavier, rawer and more rude (!!) kind of Glen Benton which gives the sound a bit more of a murky sound that really adds to the atmosphere of this 7” EP. The B-side of this EP contains one song called “The Autopsy Of My Dying Bride” which is obviously some kind of tribute to the Peaceville stalwarts of old, this song is a bit slower and has this dirty kind of Autopsy sound – definitely a great song.
