Australia’s Beyond Mortal Dreams are not newbies – the band started its existence in the distant 1995 under the name Suffering, then disbanded, started again under the present moniker and released a debut record in 2008 called ‘From Hell’.
Obviously, they are not the fastest working band in the world since they release their second full-length album ‘Abomination of the Flames’ just now. Seven long tracks are what Beyond Mortal Dreams deliver (the last three are over 7 minutes long) and what you’ll hear is a bestial-sounding Death Metal mainly influenced by Nile. This means blasting drumming, fast and heavy guitar riffing and remarkably good guitar solos that can be heard throughout the whole album. The guitar leads have some melodic touch reminding me of the work of Pestilence (hear ‘Hell of Eternal Death’ for example).
The deep growling vocals of Doomsayer are another strong point in this record. He is using some strange vocal effects on ‘They are Seven’ which bear resemblance to Cynic but mixed with much more brutal and straightforward Death Metal. ‘Decimation Hymn’ offers keyboard passages that enrich the overall sonic mayhem. The album production is on a good level and the cover artwork is in the best traditions of Morbid Angel / Hate Eternal.
Beyond Mortal Dreams don’t add anything new to the genre, they are not something unheard of but they play very well their type of Death Metal and if Nile is a band that you like then you should hear these Aussies too!
